Listening to the World Practice Period

A Practice Period is a time of intentional and often more intensive practice. In this Practice Period of six weeks, we householders find ways to commit to the Bodhisattva Path as we bring more focus to our everyday lives.

Zen practice is an invitation out of our habitual self-centered view. What is it to be completely interdependent: our thoughts, actions and relatedness with the ever-changing world?

Our vow is saving all beings.  What does that turn out to mean, in a world in which quality of life is deteriorating and may end for most of the planet’s sentient beings?

How do we seamlessly grieve, try and be kind?

We do it many ways!

And we will discover them over our time together.

I invite you to start with simple deep questioning regarding what is most important to you.

I invite you to:

Read David Loy’s book, EcoDharma, which we will be using as a basis for study

Come to our Full Moon Service on Friday, November 15, dedicated to the Planet

Consider what kind of practice commitment you would like to make for the 6 weeks of this first Practice Period for the Just Show Up Sangha.

·       A daily practice?

·       More walking meditation?

·       Being curious about why Mahakasyapa smiled when the Buddha held up a flower?

·       Offering to bring a reading or

·       coming early to help set up our sits?

·       Spending less time on your phone?

·       Mindfully choose an ecological activity?

·       Clarify for yourself why you practice?

·       You will know what is reasonable, realistic and a little bit of a stretch

·       And finally, let me know or let another sangha member know what your commitment is
